The New Brunswick Human Rights Commission is the government agency responsible for the administration of the Human Rights Act in the province. The mandate of the Commission as described in the Act is:

  • To forward the principle that every person [in New Brunswick] is free and equal with dignity and respect;
  • To promote an understanding of, acceptance of, and compliance with the Act [in the province];
  • To develop and conduct educational programs designed to eliminate discriminatory practices in [in New Brunswick]; and
  • To administer the mechanism for complaint intake, mediation, investigation, and resolution, as stipulated in the Human Rights Act.

Our mission is to advance equality and eliminate discriminatory practices and attitudes in New Brunswick by enforcing the Human Rights Act and by educating people about their human rights and responsibilities. We envision a province where everyone enjoys dignity, inclusion, and equality of opportunity, where diversity and difference are respected, and where a culture of human rights compliance and accountability is paramount.
