Indoor tanning can be hazardous to one's health. Youth is especially at risk. As a result, the use of tanning beds is banned in New Brunswick for those younger than 19 years old.
There is recent data that links indoor tanning to a significant increase of skin melanoma (the most serious type of skin cancer) among youth. A comprehensive analysis conducted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of about 20 studies concluded that the risk of skin melanoma is increased by 75 per cent when people started using tanning beds before age 30.
