Healthy eating means choosing nutritious foods; it is fundamental to good health from the prenatal and early childhood years to later life stages. Healthy eating is important in reducing the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain types of cancer and osteoporosis.

The foods we eat provide energy, vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients our bodies need to maintain health. Eating the recommended amount and types of food each day as outlined in Canada’s Food Guide, limiting foods and beverages high in calories, fat, sugar, or salt and being active every day are important to achieve better health and a healthy body weight.
