Government of New Brunswick


The New Brunswick Bilingualism Support Program (NBBSP) has been established by the Government of New Brunswick. Operated by the New Brunswick Secretariat of Official Languages, the program supports initiatives that help to promote respect, knowledge and communication between the two linguistic communities and bring them closer together. 


The aim of the program is to promote official languages and bilingualism to help bring New Brunswick’s two official-language communities closer together. Initiatives including those falling in any of the following categories are encouraged:

  • projects that help to bring the two official-language communities closer together;
  • projects involving cooperation between Francophone and Anglophone organizations regarding common issues through activities, events, pooling of expertise, etc.
  • celebration of Official Languages Day in New Brunswick annually on the second Thursday of September (see Official Languages Day in New Brunswick (gnb.ca));
  • celebration of New Brunswick Day by highlighting New Brunswick’s status as Canada’s only officially bilingual province;
  • research projects;
  • activities promoting the use of people’s second language (at home, at work, in the community, etc.);
  • production of promotional materials to promote bilingualism (webinars, videos, podcasts, etc.).
