FREDERICTON (GNB) – The names of the mover and seconder for the speech from the throne were announced today.

Réjean Savoie, the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation and Miramichi Bay-Neguac MLA, will move the acceptance of the throne speech during the opening of the second session of the 60th legislature today. The motion will be seconded by Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin MLA Mike Dawson.

“As the newest members of the legislative assembly, Mike Dawson and I are honoured to be able to help begin the new session in this way,” said Savoie. “This is an exciting time for our province. Despite recent challenges, our government is making progress and will continue to do so by focusing on our key priorities. We will continue energizing the private sector; creating vibrant and sustainable communities; increasing access to dependable health care; providing our children with a world-class education and protecting our environment. We will accomplish this while giving New Brunswickers an affordable, responsive, and high-performing government.”

Savoie was elected to the legislative assembly this year, but previously served as the Miramichi Bay MLA from 1999-2003. He worked as a tractor trailer operator, and owned and operated a restaurant and service station, before spending the last 16 years as a car sales associate.

An active member of his community, Savoie served as a member of the school board and as a member of the board of directors for the Neguac Health Centre and the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital in Chatham.

Dawson was first elected to the legislative assembly this year as well. Prior to this, he worked as a drywaller and painter for 14 years before starting his own business, Dawson’s Painting and Drywall.

He has been involved in his community, coaching both hockey and baseball, and still attends sporting events in the Miramichi area and around province.
