Financial and Consumer Services Commission
Overview
The real estate industry is co-regulated by the Financial and Consumer Services Commission who administers the Real Estate Agents Act, and the New Brunswick Real Estate Association which administers the New Brunswick Real Estate Association Act.
Any consumer considering working with a real estate agent should ensure they are working with a licensed professional. To verify licensing, search the Real Estate Agents Database and/or the Real Estate Salesperson and Managers Database.
Eligibility
Four classes of licences are issued by the Financial and Consumer Services Commission under the Real Estate Agents Act:
• Agent’s licence
• Manager’s licence
• Salesman’s licence
• Branch licence
Applicants wishing to obtain a licence under the Real Estate Agents Act must submit a completed application through the Financial and Consumer Services Commission’s online portal. More information on the requirements to apply for a licence can be found here.
Description
The Financial and Consumer Services Commission provides consumer protection under the Real Estate Agents Act by investigating certain complaints, ordering financial audits when necessary and issuing penalties for non-compliance.
