Government of New Brunswick

Overview

This Act regulates contracts for the prepayment of funeral services. It requires licensing of funeral directors who offer pre-arranged funeral contracts and specifies that funds held under such a contract be held in a trust account that is monitored by the Financial and Consumer Services Commission. The Act provides cancellation rights and maximum penalties that can be charged for the cancellation of a pre-arranged funeral service contract. This Act also contains provisions for the Compensation Fund, which exists to reimburse consumers in case of a monetary loss. Penalties are provided under this legislation for non-compliance.

Eligibility

Applicants must prove that they are licensed by the Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association of New Brunswick.
