Firearm Safety / Hunter Education Course

Overview
In New Brunswick, all first-time hunters as well as persons born on or after January 1, 1981, are required to complete Firearm Safety/Hunter Education training before they may hunt in the province.
Eligibility
Must be at least 12 years of age.
Description
There are two parts to the course:
1) Canadian Firearms Safety Course (Part A), and
2) Atlantic Hunter Education (Part B).
Part A is a requirement to obtain a federal Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) in Canada while both Parts A and B are required by first time hunters or persons born after Jan. 1 1981 to purchase a New Brunswick hunting licence. The Conservation Education Card is recognized by other provinces and states as proof of having taken hunter education training.
The Courses may be obtained through
1) Traditional classroom instruction
• Parts A and B.
• Participants must be 12 years of age and older.
• Course length a minimum of 16 hours.
2) Home Study option
• Part B only.
• Participants must be 18 years of age and older.
• Download course materials online or purchase a paper version.
• Study at home then do a written test at any District office.
