Overview

The Enhanced Support Worker Program (ESWP) provides funding to licensed early learning and childcare facilities to support children with disabilities and/or additional needs who require a support worker to actively participate in the activities of the facility.

The program is intended to:
• increase the accessibility of early learning and childcare for children with disabilities and/or additional needs; and
• support the labour force activities of families with children with disabilities and/or additional needs.

Eligibility

Preschool aged child
The following eligibility criteria must be met to receive funding through the ESWP:
• the parent(s)/guardian(s) works or attends school/training;
• the child is enrolled in a licensed early learning and childcare facility; and
• the child’s initial application demonstrates a high need for support services.

School-aged child
The following eligibility criteria must be met in order to receive funding through the ESWP:
• the parent(s)/guardian(s) works or attends school/training;
• the child is 12 years of age or under, unless turning 13 during the school year;
• the child is enrolled in a licensed early learning and childcare facility; and
• the child’s initial application demonstrates a high need for support services.

Description

A new Application Form must be submitted to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development at the beginning of each program year to be considered for this funding. The program year runs from April to March.
