Eligibility
An individual desiring certification as a journeyperson in New Brunswick in the water and wastewater operator occupation in any of the 4 categories (water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment or wastewater collection) is required to meet the following criteria:
Class 1 must have at least 1 year of acceptable operating experience at a facility designated as Class 1 or higher by the Department of Environment and Local Government; and successfully pass the Class 1 certification examination in the related category.
Class 2 must have Class 1 Certification in the related category; at least 3 years of acceptable operating experience at a facility designated as Class 1 or higher by the Department of Environment and Local Government and successfully pass the Class 2 certification examination in the related category.
Class 3 must have Class 2 Certification in the related category; at least 4 years of acceptable operating experience at a facility designated as Class 2 or higher by the Department of Environment and Local Government; 2 years of direct responsible charge experience (can be included in the overall 4 years of experience); 2 years or 90 CEUs of post high school training or education in the water or wastewater field, engineering or related science; and successfully pass the Class 3 certification examination in the related category.
Class 4 must have Class 3 Certification in the related category; at least 4 years of acceptable operating experience at a facility designated as Class 3 or higher by the Department of Environment and Local Government; 2 years of direct responsible charge experience (can be included in the overall 4 years of experience); 4 years or 180 CEUs of post high school training or education in the water or wastewater field, engineering or related science; and successfully pass the Class 4 certification examination in the related category.
Successful candidates will receive a New Brunswick Certificate of Qualification.

Description
Qualified journeypersons in the water and wastewater operator occupation are familiar with the materials, tools, principles and skills required in the water and wastewater operator occupation.
Water Operators and Wastewater Operators operate and maintain water systems which can include parameter monitoring, sample collection, coordination and performance of maintenance, data recording, system flushing and cleaning, leak repair and maintenance, preparation of reports, liaison with government departments, disinfection of system materials and components, calibrating online and portable monitoring equipment, dealing with system emergencies and installing new equipment.
