The Provincial Government Hiring Apprentices Initiative aims to increase opportunities for apprentices to work with provincial government departments and agencies by implementing hiring practices for trades people in Part 1 of the public sector, while meeting the requirements of the Civil Service Act.
Eligibility
A NB resident wishing to obtain employment in the Civil Service.
Description
The following are examples of how government departments can hire apprentices while meeting the requirements of the Civil Service Act (CSA). In each case the Department must have a certified journeyperson who can supervise the apprentice(s):
- Hire an apprentice in a temporary term position for a designated occupation.
- Hire an apprentice in a casual position for a designated occupation.
- A permanent certified employee becomes an apprentice in a different designated occupation.
- A permanent non-certified employee becomes an apprentice in a designated occupation.
- A casual position becomes a term position.
- A term position becomes a permanent position.
