Parental Leave for Physicians
Starting January 1, 2005 a Parental Leave Program has been implemented for physicians under the fee-for-service Agreement
Physicians residing in New Brunswick and having an established practice of at least 1 year, as well as meeting the income threshold of $66,265 (reviewed annually), will qualify. This Program does not apply to locums. Physicians who continue to bill FFS while on parental leave are ineligible for parental leave benefits during weeks where billings exceed $1,200 per week.
All documentation must be retained by the the New Brunswick Medical Society and made available to the department upon request.
Qualifying physicians will be reimbursed up to $1,000.00 per week for a maximum of 17 consecutive weeks. This leave can be a combination of maternity and paternity leave by either physician parent in respect to the same birth or adoption
Physicians will be allowed to bill up to $1,200.00 per week while receiving parental leave benefits.
