Overview

All electrical construction and maintenance work must be conducted by New Brunswick licensed electricians or supervised apprentices.

Eligibility

• An Electrician Licence is required to make, repair or maintain electrical installations. To qualify for an Electrician Licence, applicants must hold a New Brunswick Certificate of Qualification.

• An Industrial Electrician Licence is required to make, repair or maintain electrical installations in establishments where electricians are permanently employed. To qualify for an Industrial Electrician Licence, applicants must hold a New Brunswick Certificate of Qualification.

• An Electrical Contractor Licence is required to obtain electrical wiring permits and to carry out an electrical installation. To qualify for an Electrical Contractor Licence, applicants must hold a New Brunswick Electrician's Licence and have two (2) years of experience as an electrician, or must employ a person with those qualifications.

• A Sign Installer Contractor Licence is required to obtain sign installation permits and to carry out sign installation work. To qualify for a Sign Installer Contractor Licence, applicants must employ a sign installer with a valid New Brunswick Sign Installer Licence.

• A Sign Installer Licence is required to perform sign installation work. To qualify for a Sign Installer Licence, applicants must complete a course which is satisfactory to Chief Inspector, must obtain 2000 documented hours of sign installation work, and must complete a competency test which is acceptable to the Chief Inspector.

• A Sign Installer Helper Licence is required to perform sign installation work. To qualify for a Sign Installer Helper Licence, applicants must be employed by a Sign Installer Contractor or an Electrical Contractor.

• A Lightning Protection System Agent Licence is required to dispose of, install, alter or maintain a lightning protection system. To qualify for a Lightning Protection System Agent Licence, applicants must be appointed by a licenced supplier, be a resident of the Province and must satisfy the Chief Electrical Inspector that they are qualified.

• A Lightning Protection System Supplier Licence is required to dispose of, install, alter or maintain a lightning protection system. To qualify for a Lightning Protection System Supplier Licence, applicants must register by affidavit, with the Chief Electrical Inspector, that all equipment for the installation of lightning protections systems conform to the requirements of the Installation Code for Lightning Protection Systems.

Description

Effective July 3, 2019, to apply for your first-time technical licence you may choose one of the following options:

• Print and fill in your application and fax it to 506-457-7394 OR email it to TISFTN@gnb.ca. Once received an agent will contact you for payment by credit card.

• Print and fill in your application and mail it with a cheque or money order payable to the Minster of Finance to:

• Call 1-888-659-3222 and have all required information from the application ready to give over the phone, including a credit card for payment.
