FREDERICTON (GNB) – NB Liquor today released its unaudited results for the quarter ended Dec. 23, 2018, which indicated an increase in sales of 0.9 per cent or $900,000.

Key product sales, by category, for the third quarter (Sept. 24 to Dec. 23, 2018) compared to the third quarter last year (Sept. 25 to Dec. 24, 2017) were:

  • coolers and cider revenue grew 10.9 per cent, up $700,000.
  • spirits revenue increased 1.3 per cent, up $400,000.
  • wine revenue grew 0.6 per cent, up $200,000.
  • beer revenue declined 0.6 per cent down $300,000.

“Even though Christmas Eve, which is one of the busiest days in our year, fell in the fourth quarter, we still had a strong third quarter with sales up overall by 0.9 per cent compared to the third quarter last year,” said Brian Harriman, president and CEO of NB Liquor.

NB Liquor is a provincial Crown corporation responsible for the purchase, importation, distribution and retail activity for all alcoholic beverages in the province. It serves the public and licensees through 41 corporate retail outlets, 89 private agency store outlets, and 66 grocery stores selling wine and cider. Its product portfolio comprises 2,267 products, including wines, spirits, beers and other products, such as coolers and cider products. NB Liquor’s results are reported on a retail reporting cycle, which is typically a 52-week year. Retail reporting will result in a 53-week year occurring every five to six years.

Over the course of the last 42 years, NB Liquor has built a network of stores in 33 communities around the province. These communities benefit from the employment of about 620 people.

The corporation also released the expenses of the board of directors and of the president and chief executive officer for the third quarter. The expenses are available online.
