SAINT JOHN (GNB) – The call for nominations for the sixth annual Premier's Awards for Energy Efficiency opens today and closes March 17.

"Each year, I am honoured to recognize the significant achievements of individuals, organizations and communities that are contributing to a better environment and a stronger economy by reducing energy use in New Brunswick," said Premier David Alward.

Efficiency NB created the awards to highlight the achievements of those who promote and practise energy efficiency. Alward and Environment and Local Government Minister Danny Soucy will present the awards on May 22 in Fredericton.

This year, Efficiency NB has introduced a new category celebrating the achievements of young New Brunswickers. The Energy Efficiency Champion – Youth Award will recognize a youth, group of youths or a school class that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to energy efficiency in school, in the community or at home.

The public and the business community are encouraged to submit nominations for any of the following awards:

●    Energy efficiency champion – commercial sector;
●    Energy efficiency champion – industrial sector;
●    Energy efficiency champion – residential sector;
●    Energy efficiency champion – individual;
●    Energy efficiency champion – youth; and
●    Outstanding energy efficiency achievement – community award.

A description of each award and information about the nomination process are online.

Efficiency NB will select award recipients for an additional six categories from among its exemplary program participants.
