FREDERICTON (GNB) – Five awards and two honourable mentions were handed out at the 2012 New Brunswick Export Achievement Awards event in Fredericton.

"These awards provide us the opportunity to showcase how important manufacturers, service providers and exporters are to our provincial economy," said Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud. "We are proud of these international entrepreneurs who continue to be innovative, producing world-class products and services and promote our province."

Following are the recipients:

●    RtTech Software Inc., of Riverview, New Exporter Award;
●    Discovery Drill Manufacturer (DDM) Ltd., of Beresford, New Frontiers Award;
●    Digital Products Ltd., of Rothesay, Innovative Export Award;
●    Acadian Seaplants Ltd., of Dartmouth, N.S., Foreign Owned Exporter (new category); and
●    LuminUltra Technologies Ltd., of Fredericton, Exporter of the Year.

I get it!Math, of Durham Bridge, received an honourable mention in the New Exporter category and Covered Bridge Potato Chips, of Waterville, earned an honourable mention in the New Frontiers category.

"Our government is committed to helping Atlantic Canadian businesses compete internationally, grow their business and create jobs at home," said Bernard Valcourt, minister of state for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and La Francophonie. "We are proud to support the New Brunswick Export Achievement Awards and the role they play in highlighting the success of innovative Atlantic companies, which are building their future by exporting New Brunswick excellence to the global marketplace."

The 2012 New Brunswick Export Achievement Awards are a joint initiative of the Department of Economic Development and the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters. The Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency, Export Development Canada and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade also participated in the event.

"New Brunswick has a great history of success in the international marketplace," said Stephen Stultz, CME chairman of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters and chief executive officer of Apex Industries. "We have had to rely on our ingenuity, savvy and perseverance to succeed against larger, global competitors. These companies are certainly great examples of what can be achieved from our small corner of the world."

New Exporter Award
RtTech Software Inc., of Riverview, develops products that transform data into actionable information that can be used to improve efficiencies in industrial sites around the world. Using RtDuet, companies can track business logic around downtime and ultimately increase productivity using existing assets. Reductions in maintenance costs and operating improvements will result in a return on investment in less than six months. The company has clients in North America, South America, Europe and Australia.

New Frontiers Award
Discovery Drill Manufacturer (DDM) Ltd., of Beresford, manufactures what it describes as "the most comprehensive turnkey drills in the industry." The company’s products arrive complete and ready to drill from the manufacturer to the drill site. Its hydraulic diamond drills offer multiple depth capability, which reduces the number of drills required for the drilling contractor. The company exports throughout North America, South America, Africa, Finland and Sweden.

Innovative Exporter Award
Digital Products Ltd., of Rothesay, is a leading-edge technology company whose products are designed to help particular industries improve their bottom line and enhance their operating efficiencies. The company services the ATM, vehicle fleet control, telephone test and interface industries. The DPL Group boasts a talented design and software engineering team whose GPS vehicle tracking and monitoring system is a leader in Black Box technology.

Foreign Owned Exporter Award (new category)
Acadian Seaplants Ltd., headquartered in Dartmouth, N.S., operates a facility in Pennfield and produces branded seaweed products manufactured from rockweed by a proprietary process of natural sun drying and milling. The company is the largest biotech, marine plant product manufacturer of its type in the world.

Exporter of the Year Award
LuminUltra Technologies Ltd., of Fredericton, was established in 2003 and at that time, its sole focus was the sale and support of a microbiological test kit to better control biological wastewater treatment processes. Today, in addition to two United States patents and one pending in Canada, the company has approved trademarks in China and the European Union as well as pending trademarks in Canada and the United States.
