DIEPPE (CNB) – New facilities at École Sainte-Thérèse in Dieppe were officially opened today. Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Jody Carr was in attendance.

"As the new minister, I am pleased to see how proud the students and staff of the school and community residents are of their new facilities," Carr said. "It will be more enjoyable for them to teach and learn and to have stimulating educational experiences in the more spacious premises, which will meet the needs of a growing school population."

The school can now accommodate 600 students from kindergarten to Grade 5. There are 28 classrooms, three student services rooms, a renovated cafeteria, a gymnasium, a music room, two new special education rooms, two multi-purpose rooms and administration rooms.

"We are very proud to open officially today a state-of-the-art learning environment that respects the environment and that is inviting for all our students, École Sainte-Thérèse staff members and the entire community," said Ernest Thibodeau, chair of the District 1 Education Council.

As a result of the improvements to École Sainte-Thérèse, it now holds LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification.
