Chevelle Malcolm is a recent graduate from the University of New Brunswick, holding a degree in Biology and Philosophy. As a child growing up in Jamaica, her passion for reading Classical and Caribbean literature cultivated a love of writing and storytelling.  She began writing poetry at the age of 10 and used her poetry as a means of self-expression. Writing poetry has helped Chevelle to "discover her voice" and gain the courage to use it for empowerment. As a woman of faith, she is very passionate about social justice and morality, writing poetry to champion the cause of the marginalized groups in society. While studying at UNB, she became an award-winning poet and a frequent reader at community events supporting black minority and commemorating missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Her poem “We Rise, for her – Our Sister” was commissioned by the Looking Out For Each Other project and published in their 2018 newsletter. Chevelle finds pleasure in every opportunity to use her poetry to
                                                        bring awareness, empower and heal.
