Hon. Tammy Scott-Wallace, Dexter Richard and Nicole Smith

Congratulations to Dexter Richard who was announced as the 2023 Roly McLenahan Canada Games Awards recipient at the New Brunswick Sport Awards that took place Nov. 18th.

Richard, from Fredericton, won a gold medal with partner Eric Davis in the synchronized event and a bronze medal in the individual event of the Trampoline category. In his second participation at the Canada Winter Games, not only did he help secure NB’s first medal at the 2023 Canada Games, but he also led the province to their first-ever trampoline medals.

The Roly McLenahan Canada Games award was introduced in 1985 to honour the memory of Roly McLenahan and to recognize a Canada Games team or athlete who best combines excellence in sport, perseverance and sportsmanship, and who has made a significant contribution to the New Brunswick team effort in the Canada Games.

Medalists from the 2023 Canada Winter Games, the 2023 North American Indigenous Games and the 2023 Jeux de la Francophonie Internationale were also recognized at the New Brunswick Sport Awards. They were presented with certificates by the Honourable Tammy Scott-Wallace, Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture.

Minister Scott-Wallace, also took the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate Nicole Smith for her dedicated service as Team New Brunswick’s volunteer Chef de Mission for the last four Canada Games. Nicole was presented with a beautiful artwork created by visual artist Jessie Babin, who represented Team NB as an artist at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
