Finance Minister Blaine Higgs tabled the 2012-2013 Capital Budget in the Legislative Assembly Dec. 13, 2011. In order to address New Brunswick’s serious fiscal challenges, funding to start new projects will be limited to $24 million.

At the same time, the government is investing responsibly in health care and education to help New Brunswickers care for their families.

In tabling a multi-year capital budget for 2012-2013, the government is fulfilling a commitment to table the first capital budget plan on record which sets the roadmap not only for 2012-2013, but for the following two years as well.


2012-13 capital budget limits spending to start new projects at $24 million

FREDERICTON (CNB) – The provincial government is setting aside $24 million for the start of new projects in 2012-13, down from $42 million in new spending in 2011-12.

"We sought a balance in this capital budget, limiting new spending to address our serious fiscal challenges while investing responsibly in health care and education to help New Brunswickers care for their families," said Finance Minister Blaine Higgs.

The capital budget also outlines a roadmap for spending in the following two fiscal years. As such, it fulfils a commitment by the provincial government to release a multi-year capital budget plan.
