Amendments introduced to Fish and Wildlife Act to extend Sunday hunting26 November 2019
FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has introduced amendments to the Fish and Wildlife Act to extend Sunday hunting to include every Sunday between the weekend following Thanksgiving until Dec. 31.
“Allowing a longer period of seven day a week hunting will increase recreational opportunities for the thousands of New Brunswick sportsmen and women who enjoy hunting,” said Natural Resources and Energy Development Minister Mike Holland. “Hunting on Sunday is a reflection of the busy work and personal lives of outdoors people rather than a wildlife management, conservation or sustainability issue.”
Currently, hunting is permitted on three Sundays between late October and mid-November within firearms deer season. The proposed amendments would lengthen this period beginning in 2020.
“This change is in response to ongoing requests from hunters,” said Holland. “We are listening to what our stakeholders have to say and are proud to be able to work with them to achieve common goals.”
Extending Sunday hunting will help meet government’s commitment to foster outdoor living and sound wildlife management.26-11-19
