Vibrant Communities

From villages to small towns to the city of Miramichi, this region is filled with stories, history, and culture. Given that the Mi’kmaq peoples first called this region home before the Acadian, Scottish, Irish, and English settlers arrived, a real cultural richness permeates communities here. To learn more about the 3,000 years of Mi’gmaq culture rooted in this area, visit Metepenagiag Heritage Park. You can also still find traces of the region’s shipbuilding and lumber trade history in places like Beaubears Island and the Central New Brunswick Woodmen’s Museum. In short, this region is brimming with stories and friendly folks.


Big on Nature

When it comes to nature, the Miramichi region has a lot to offer. Be it winding rivers, forests, coastlines, or undulating hills, you can get out in nature in any number of ways. Head to the river for a day of tubing, canoeing, swimming, or fishing. See the world from above with a little adrenaline rush soaring over French Ford Cove Nature Park on the Maritimes’ longest zipline. And if all you really want is some rest and relaxation, then a beach day at Escuminac Beach and Family Park is a must. Finally, for something breathtaking, hike to Fall Brook Falls, New Brunswick’s highest waterfall.


Leisure & Recreation

There’s no better place for a great family outing than Miramichi’s Ritchie Warf with its waterfront restaurants, boardwalks, adventure playground, splash pad, and picnic pavilion. You’ll also want to explore all the smaller towns and villages to discover the coolest farmer’s markets, funkiest shops, and tastiest restaurants and cafés the region has to offer. For the sporty, there’s lots to do year-round, including teeing off on pristine 9- and 18-hole golf courses, or taking to the water to fish, boat, or paddle. In the winter, trade your hiking boots for snowshoes and your ATV for a skidoo and keep exploring!


Arts & Culture

Festivals? Miramichi has quite a few, including an International Chalk Art Festival, an Irish Festival, a Rock n’ Roll Festival, a Folksong Festival, and an International Buskers Festival. This region is rich in storytellers and musicians, so you’ll find art and culture are deeply valued here. When you settle in at a local pub or eatery, you’ll be greeted by genuine hospitality and served delicious food, often with a ghost story or tall tale to go with it.
