Vibrant Communities

With Quebec and Chaleur Bay to its north, this mountainous region is sprinkled with many small, welcoming communities that grew out of the unique blend of Scottish, English, French, Irish, and First Nations cultures that call this place home. The region’s largest city, Campbellton, rests on the shores of Chaleur Bay and boasts plenty of quaint boutiques, restaurants, and stores you’ll want to check out. Home to Chaleur Bay, a member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club, the pristine Restigouche River, and the Appalachian Mountain Range, the Restigouche region is as wild as it is beautiful. For those who love watersports, Charlo Beach and Tide Head Beach are calling your name. For those who love to fish, cast a line in the Restigouche River, which is famous the world over for its salmon fishing. But if staying on land to hike, bike, or ski is more your speed, then Sugarloaf Provincial Park will become one of your favourite spots in no time. Surrounded by nature yet packed with things to do, this is one region where you’ll never be bored. In the waterfront city of Campbellton, you can go shopping, catch a show, or try out a new spot to eat. Hop in your car and take a road trip to explore smaller communities steeped in the region’s logging and fishing history and discover gems like the Inch Arran Lighthouse and the Former Kedgwick Railway Station. Of course, when you combine all this nature with golf courses, marinas, pools, and beaches, it means you can golf, bike, hike, camp, paddle, ski, snowmobile, or ATV to your heart’s content. Then hold on to your hats because this region is home to the Campbellton Bluegrass Festival, Kedgwick’s Folklore and Accordion Festival, and the Eel River Bar Annual Pow-Wow, just to name a few! Luckily there are plenty of friendly restaurants, charming cafés, and lively microbreweries to choose from, so you can find the one that satisfies your cravings, especially if that craving happens to be super fresh seafood or salmon.
