The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, in collaboration with WorkSafeNB, is sponsoring a multi-stage legislative review of workers' compensation.

The legislation surrounding workers’ compensation has not undergone a thorough review in more than 20 years.

The objective of the review is:

  • to ensure that the New Brunswick workers’ compensation system appropriately addresses the needs and realities of current and future workplaces;
  • to strike the right balance between adequate compensation for injured workers and employers’ financial interests; and
  • to modernize the act with plain language to ensure that those impacted by its legislation are able to fully understand its implications and what it means to them.

We value your input

All New Brunswickers are welcome to submit comments and/or suggestions. To do so, please download or open the discussion papers, and respond to the questions related to the three topics outlined in the bullet points below. Members of the public and stakeholders are invited to share their comments by email, fax or regular mail by September 25, 2015.

A series of consultations will be held throughout the month of September.

Phase II of the review will focus on three topic areas as follows:

  • Governance structure for WorkSafeNB;

  • Workers’ and Employers’ Advocates Services; and

  • Section 38 (benefits) of the Worker’s Compensation Act
