Overview:

The New Brunswick Arts Board (NBAB), established under the New Brunswick Arts Board Act, is a corporate body with a mandate to facilitate and promote the creation of arts, facilitate the enjoyment and understanding of the arts, to advise the government on arts policy, to unify and speak for the arts community, and to administer funding programs for professional artists.

The NBAB Board of Directors consists of between nine (9) and eleven (11) voting members including up to six (6) voting members appointed by the Minister; up to three (3) voting members appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister; the Director of NBAB and one (1) employee of the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, designated by the Minister, both who serve as non-voting members.

Current Opportunity:

The provincial government is currently seeking to fill three (3) vacancies.  Expressions of interest are invited to fill these positions but may also be used to fill future vacancies.

Qualifications / Commitment:

Considerations for board composition are as follows:

  • Candidates must be residents of New Brunswick;
  • Candidates must demonstrate that they value the arts in New Brunswick, have experience and expertise in, and knowledge of, the arts in New Brunswick, and / or have direct involvement in the arts in New Brunswick;
  • Candidates must demonstrate that they value the development of, and education in, the arts;
  • Candidates must be willing to abide by the Board’s code of ethics and conflict of interest policies;
  • Membership of the Board will reflect the diversity found in the province’s arts community and where possible include representation from differing art disciplines, generations, and cultural mosaics including the two official linguistic communities, and First Nations, as well as gender and geographic diversity;
  • Members appointed by the Minister will be professional artists or a representative of an organization of professional artists.

Conditions / Compensation:

 

Board members receive a per diem for meeting days and are reimbursed for expenses reasonably incurred in carrying out their responsibilities in accordance with the rates established by the Board of Management Travel Policy.

Travel is required to attend some board meetings.
