New River Beach Provincial Park is situated along the Bay of Fundy in Charlotte County.  With a total land area of approximately 364 ha (900 acres), New River Beach Park is divided by highway Route #1 into three distinct areas:  it includes land along both sides of New River extending to the old Saint John Road, lands between Route #1, the old Route #1 highway, New River Beach Road and the Coastal Highway frontage between New River and Lepreau Harbour.

New River Beach is a critical component of the “Stonehammer GeoPark”.  The products for this zone reflect the natural formation of the bay from millions of years ago to present day.  In contrast with the relatively young bay the rocks are some of the oldest in the world.  The beach itself is one of the nicest along the entire Bay of Fundy coast.

To ensure the intrinsic values of New River Beach provincial park are protected for the benefit of present and future generations, the New Brunswick Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture will be preparing a park management plan that defines a vision and philosophy that will guide future management decisions affecting the park.

Efforts to-date:

The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture has prepared the following Resource Management Statement for New River Beach Provincial Park. This statement will remain in effect until a Resource Management Plan has been formally adopted.

The management statement for the New River Beach Park (NRBPP) is presented in this document. It has been prepared with stakeholder and public input to foster transparency in the planning process. The Wolastoqey (Maliseet) Nation was not consulted in the preparation of this document. Therefore, this Statement lacks the Wolastoqey Nation’s traditional knowledge about the lands lying within the NRBPP, information about Wolastoqey historical and current use of NRBPP, and information about Treaty and Aboriginal rights that are or may be associated with NRBPP. The DTHC recognizes the importance of First Nations consultation in park planning and will make it a priority as it prepares the management plan for the NRBPP as well as in future provincial park planning.

The Department will engage collaboratively with First Nations and actively consult with the public over the coming months to establish a process by which to transform the Statement into a Plan that will inform/guide the management of resources at New River Beach over the next 10-years.
