    A Canada/New Brunswick Growing Forward funding program to accelerate the adoption and implementation of recognized food safety programs and/or systems in the production, processing and distribution of agri-food products; to contribute to the development and implementation of a National Agriculture and Food Traceability System (NAFTS), and to enhance biosecurity on New Brunswick farms. Program funding is provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and this Department.

    Program ends March 31, 2013.

    Eligibility

    New Brunswick producers, commodity or other agricultural and agri-food organizations, abattoir owners, and non-federally registered agri-food processors.

    Description

    Program Elements :

    Food Safety System Implementation

    I. Implementation of On-Farm Food Safety Programs:
    Activities include seminars, workshops, conferences, short courses, coordination, counselling, analysis of system, pre-audit evaluation, the initial audit of participating producers, and specified equipment integral to implementing recognized food safety programs.

    II. Post-Farm Agri-Food Safety Training & Development
    Assistance to non-federally registered agri-food processors, including abattoir owners, for the development and implementation of improved food safety process control systems, including HACCP–based or ISO compliant systems.

    III. Implementation of Post-Farm Food Safety Programs
    Implementation of improvements in facilities which are identified as necessary to meet the requirements of a recognized food safety process control system or inspection program.

    Development and Implementation of a National Agriculture and Food Traceability System (NAFTS)

    I. Enterprise Infrastructure
    Purchase and installation of equipment necessary to implement traceability systems, including animal/product handling systems, training, data recording and handling systems.


    II. Traceability Pilot Projects
    Purchase and installation of equipment necessary to demonstrate traceability systems, including animal/product handling systems, training, data recording and handling systems, counselling and coordination.

    Biosecurity Implementation

    Training and awareness activities such as seminars, workshops, conferences and short courses; and purchase on-farm bio-security related equipment, signage etc. for producers.
