    SNB maintains a network of registries across the province where legal plans and documents related to the ownership of real property can be registered and made available for public scrutiny. The records in the Registries provide land ownership information dating back to the issuance of the original crown grants (over two hundred years of history for some parts of the province). Instruments registered or filed in the registry include deeds, mortgages, wills, subdivision plans, etc.

    Description

    "Instrument" includes every deed, conveyance, mortgage, assignment of mortgage, certificate of discharge of mortgage, assurance, lease, bond, release, discharge, power of attorney or substitution thereof under which such instrument is executed, bond or agreement for sale or purchase of land, letter of attorney, will, probate of will, grant of administration with the will annexed, letters of administration, certificate fo the laying out of road, memorial of a judgement or decree of any court affecting any interest in or title of land, sheriff's, referee's or other officer's deed of lands sold under and by virtue of his office, every contract in writing and every proceeding in lunancy, bankruptcy or insolvency, grant from the Crown as representing the Province, grant from the Crown as representing Canada, and any other document whereby lands or real estate may be disposed of, transferred, charged, encumberec or affected, in anyway affecting lands in this Province.
