HAUT-RIVIÈRE-DU-PORTAGE (GNB) – A sod-turning ceremony was held today for a new walking track in Haut-Rivière-du-Portage.

The provincial government is providing support through the Regional Development Corporation, a component of the Department of Economic Development.

“This is a great investment because our government believes in putting New Brunswickers’ health and wellness first,” said Premier David Alward. “We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our province as we rebuild New Brunswick together. By encouraging New Brunswickers to become more active, we will be easing the burden on present and future healthcare costs.”

The project is being overseen by the Conseil récréatif de Haut-Rivière-du-Portage.

“This new walking track will definitely promote a healthy and active lifestyle for local children and adults alike,” said Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud. “This is great news for our region. It will be a great addition to the outdoor rink built in 2009.”

The Conseil récréatif de Haut-Rivière-du-Portage is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1988. The group oversaw the construction of an outdoor rink and a heated building in 2009.
