FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has renewed the Class 1 air quality approval for the AV Nackawic Inc. pulp mill.

The new approval will take effect Oct. 1, the day after the current approval expires. The renewal follows public consultation that took place between March 8 and July 9.

Documentation supporting the review included a facility profile, draft and intended approvals, and summaries of issues raised and responded to as applicable. This information may be viewed at regional offices of the Department of Environment and Local Government or on the department's website.

The Department of Environment and Local Government is responsible for administering the Clean Air Act through early planning, pollution prevention initiatives and the administration of approvals. Approvals may be amended by the department if necessary.

The mill, located 60 kilometres north of Fredericton, has been in operation since 1970. It produces an average of 500 to 540 air dry tonnes per day of bleached Kraft dissolving grade pulp.
