FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued today by Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Martine Coulombe in recognition of Asian Heritage Month:

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Asian Heritage Month.
Throughout the month of May, New Brunswickers are invited to acknowledge and explore the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada.

As the minister responsible for immigration and multiculturalism, I am proud of the tremendous contributions of our Asian immigrants and their descendants. New Brunswick's cultural diversity strengthens the province socially, politically and economically in innumerable ways.

Guided by their strong work ethic, dedication and energy, Asian New Brunswickers have brought about important innovations in areas as diverse as business, technology and the arts.

Our province proudly supports the immigrant-serving, multicultural and ethno-cultural agencies that, day after day, work to make our province a more welcoming place. Once again this year, the Asian Heritage Society of New Brunswick has set up an exhibit to raise awareness about the rich mosaic of Asian culture and traditions.

Since activities began 10 years ago, Asian Heritage Month in the province has been celebrated and supported by more than ten different ethnocultural groups and thousands of people. I encourage all New Brunswickers to take the time to participate in festivities that celebrate the many achievements and contributions of our Asian citizens.
