According to Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada’s Indian Register System, as of December 31, 2017, there are approximately 16,123 First Nations people in New Brunswick, 9,732 on reserve and 6,391 off reserve.



*Note: Although the term Maliseet is the one generally used for the First People of the St. John River Valley, Wolastoqiyik is becoming more common as it is their term for themselves.
