The Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA) most public sector organizations in New Brunswick.

Overview

RTIPPA applies to most public sector organizations in New Brunswick. It does not apply to other organizations such as private businesses, non-profits, and federal government departments and agencies.

Who the act applies to

RTIPPA applies to public bodies in the province of New Brunswick, such as:

  • Government of New Brunswick departments, secretariats, and offices of the provincial civil service
  • Schools, school districts, and District Education Councils
  • Regional Health Authorities and other health care bodies
  • Agencies, boards, commissions, and Crown corporations
  • Universities and community colleges
  • Municipalities, local service districts, regional service commissions and regional municipalities
  • Municipal police forces
  • Other local government boards and commissions

Who the act does not apply to

RTIPPA does not apply to:

  • Private sector businesses and organizations, non-profit organizations, and professional groups. These organizations are subject to the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
  • Federal government departments, agencies, and Crown corporations. These organizations are subject to the federal Privacy Act and Access to Information Act.
  • The office of a Member of the Legislative Assembly
  • The office of an Officer of the Legislative Assembly
  • The Court of Appeal of New Brunswick
  • The Court of King’s Bench of New Brunswick
  • Provincial Court of New Brunswick
