The provincial government has been reviewing the governance model of the public education system to better respond to the needs of students and teachers. Through this review, government has consulted with many stakeholders.
Several changes have been proposed to improve the public education governance structure in New Brunswick. The changes will prioritize educational outcomes, quality of services, and student voices.
New and enhanced mandates, clear reporting structures, and new accountability mechanisms will support the achievement of common goals and regional objectives, while ensuring a culture of continuous improvement throughout the system.
These changes will help ensure long-term stability, while the everyday classroom experience for students and teachers will remain unchanged.
Education governance changes will come into effect on July 1, 2023. Government will work closely with partners across the system on enacting implementation plans over the coming months and years.
