Public Safety
Overview
Successful completion of Canadian Firearms training is a prerequisite for individuals who wish to acquire and possess firearms.
Eligibility
Individuals age 12 or order, and not currently prohibited from possessing firearms are eligible to participate in firearm safety training.
Description
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CRSC) and Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) are national firearm safety training courses that are available across Canada.
Knowledge of firearm laws and safe-handling practices are the cornerstone of the Canadian Firearms Program.
All Firearms Safety Training Course students must successfully pass a written and practical exam.
Individuals aged 18 and older may complete the written and practical tests for the CFSC and CRFSC without taking the courses.
Individuals generally need to meet the safety requirements only once.
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (non-restricted firearms) is delivered on behalf of the Firearms Office by the Department of Natural Resources.
The CRFSC is delivered directly by the Firearms Office of this Department.
