Support for Translation and Interpretation Program
This program is designed to assist organizations in providing services in both official languages. This program aims to promote the participation of both official language communities in New Brunswick in activities sponsored by social and community organizations.
Any non-profit social or community organization working province-wide and whose permanent office is in New Brunswick.
Governmental and paragovernmental organizations, as well as educational and health care institutions are not eligible. Professional and recreational associations are also excluded from the program.
Financial assistance provided under this program will not exceed 75% of the total eligible costs, to a maximum of $5,000 per year and is subject to availability of funds.
Only applications relating to activities held during this fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) may receive funding. Financial support is payable after the project has been completed. To be reimbursed, the organization must submit a copy of the paid invoices no later than 60 days after the event is held (or by March 31 at the latest, if the project is completed after February 1).
Priority will be given to organizations that have not previously received financial support from the program.
The following are eligible expenses (please refer to “Guidelines” for further information on eligible expenses and documentation required).
1. Interpretation services
Interpretation services in both official languages are eligible when they are offered during:
- a major public meeting that takes place in New Brunswick, for instance, a conference, symposium, workshop, or annual meeting of the organization;
- a meeting that brings together a minimum of 50 participants from the two official language communities;
Note: Priority will be given to events that include guest speakers from both official-language communities.
Translation to English and French of the following documents is eligible under this component of the program. These documents fall into four categories: (Please refer to “guidelines” for detailed information on eligible documents, eligible expenditures and documentation required).
A. Foundation documents from the organization
B. Documents related to an important meeting
C. Promotional material
D. Other documents
Applications for funding should be submitted to this department at least eight weeks before the start of the activity. Applications may be made at any time of the year. Because of the large number of applications received, it is impossible to respond favourably to all organizations that apply for support under this program. It is highly recommended that applications be made very early in the fiscal year.
