FREDERICTON (GNB) – The legislative assembly building will be illuminated in red on the evening of Nov. 12, marking 50 days to go until the year-long celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.

“Canada’s 150th anniversary is a national and historic milestone, celebrating 150 years of growth, history and achievement,” said Chris Collins, Speaker of the legislative assembly. “Our legislative assembly building will be one of many buildings and landmarks illuminated across the country to Light Canada Red on this momentous occasion.”

Canadians are invited to participate in the Light Canada Red campaign by wearing red and posting selfies, or by posting photos of the illuminated buildings on social media using the #Canada150, and #CanadaRed hashtags.

Collins noted that Canada is a rich and dynamic country that is home to more than 34 million people.

“It is a country full of history, culture and diversity,” he said. “Since Confederation in 1867, Canada has seen a world of change. This upcoming anniversary year is an opportunity to reflect upon the Canadian experience, applaud all that has been accomplished and celebrate what is to come.”

More information about Canada 150 celebrations and specific New Brunswick celebrations will be available as the countdown continues.
