FREDERICTON (GNB) – The legislature will be lit up in gold tonight in honour of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The lighting will coincide with the New Brunswick arrival of cyclists taking part in the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride, among them Speaker of the legislative assembly Chris Collins.

“Childhood cancer is not a rare disease,” said Collins. “In fact, cancer takes the lives of more children than all other diseases combined.”

One in 285 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20. At any time, more than 1,500 Canadian children and their families are facing childhood cancer.

The legislature will remain illuminated until the end of September.
