FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued today by Attorney General Hugh Flemming, on behalf of Justice Minister Troy Lifford, to mark Co-op Week, Oct. 13 - 19 and Credit Union Day, Oct. 17, in New Brunswick:

I extend my best wishes for a happy and successful Credit Union Day and Co-op Week to the thousands of credit union, caisse populaire and co-operative members throughout the province.

New Brunswick's co-operatives are responsible for the creation of more than 12,000 jobs, with an annual payroll valued at more than $460 million and total tax revenue exceeding $117 million.

New Brunswick's 25 credit unions and caisses populaires located in 95 locations employ more than 1,100, have 250,000 members and have more than $3.8 billion in assets.

The co-operative movement has a long and proud history, having made significant contributions to the economic and social advancement of our province.

This special week offers New Brunswickers a chance to express their appreciation for the benefits that co-operatives provide to communities in every part of New Brunswick.
