Transition Houses provide shelter for up to 30 days, crisis intervention and referral services for women and their children who are victims of relationship violence and abuse.

 

Who is Eligible?

  • Any woman, with or without children, who has been physically, emotionally, verbally, financially, psychologically or sexually abused.
  • Women taking their children away from abuse.

Staying at a transition house is confidential. Staff will not disclose your name to anyone calling or looking for you. Street addresses of the houses are not publicized.

There are 14 transition houses in the province, including one for aboriginal women, providing 170 beds. 

  • Safe for Pets Too. In Transition with You. This service provides temporary shelter and veterinary care for pets of women who are leaving an abusive relationship and who have concerns about the safety of their animals.
