Disability Awareness Week award winners announced31 May 2016
FREDERICTON (GNB) – Four individuals have been selected to receive Disability Awareness Week Awards for 2016 in recognition of their significant contributions toward improving the lives of persons with a disability.
“The quality and quantity of work being done by these recipients in our communities to support persons with a disability is truly inspiring,” said Christyne Allain, co-chair of the week’s executive committee. “Their efforts and contributions serve as excellent examples of what New Brunswickers can do to ensure persons with a disability are included in our communities.”
The winners are:
- Doug and Donna MacKenzie, Saint Andrews;
- Jack Brien, Rothesay;
- Kelley Flowers, Fredericton; and
- Danny Soucy, Grand Falls (Honourable Andy Scott Award).
The recipients were selected by the week’s executive committee.
Established in 1988, these awards honour those who have made significant efforts to improve opportunities for persons with a disability so they can participate fully in their communities and lead more independent lives.
The awards are given out during Disability Awareness Week which began May 29 and runs through June 4. The theme this year is Employment Enables Inclusion!
