You are at risk of getting a sexually transmitted infection
- If you ever had sex, you may be at risk.
- You are at greater risk if:
• you had sex with many partners;
• your partner had sex with many partners;
• you had sex without properly using a condom; or
• you have sex when you are under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
You are at risk of getting a blood-borne infection
- If you ever had used drugs, you may be at risk.
- You are at greater risk if:
• you have used drugs with many partners;
• you had a tattoo or body piercings done with contaminated needles or other equipment; or
• you have shared equipment for drug use such as needles, syringes or other equipment.
You should be checked for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections if you have concerns or if you are at risk of contracting either. Most infections can cause serious harm if not treated.
