Municipalities (Cities, Towns, Villages) and Rural Communities
The Department acts as a liaison with municipalities and rural communities and provides assistance on matters relating to finances, administration, governance and infrastructure. It is also responsible for overseeing the administration of the legislative and policy framework for local government.
Available to all municipalities and rural communities.
Staff within the department are available to provide liaison services; financial support, including audits and budget reviews; and assistance with local municipal activities, including advice regarding the exercise of their powers and administration, as well as obligations under the Official Languages Act. The division also works with communities interested in various forms of restructuring and sharing of services on a regional basis. Following quadrennial municipal elections the department co-ordinates and hosts Orientation session(s).
