Overview
New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization (NB EMO) is the provincial lead agency for emergency management. NB EMO works to reduce loss of life and injuries to persons and damage to property and the environment, and ensure that officials, stakeholders and the public have the information, assistance and training needed to adequately prepare for emergencies and disasters.
Eligibility
All provincial departments and agencies, as well as federal, private and non-governmental organizations (NGO) partners, are eligible to obtain the service.
When a situation is beyond the capability of local authorities to cope alone, local authorities may request operational assistance from the provincial or federal government, normally through NB EMO.
Description
NB EMO simulates and coordinates emergency preparedness planning with federal and provincial government departments and agencies for both peacetime disasters and war emergencies.
NB EMO develops and maintains the provincial all hazards emergency response plan, as well as federal and provincial contingency plans and procedures for different disaster scenarios.
NB EMO works with government departments to ensure they have the information, assistance and training needed to prepare for emergencies and disasters, including the preparation of departmental disaster plans for inclusion in the overall provincial disaster plan.
NB EMO works with departmental staff to prepare instructions, emergency orders and regulations and essential records that may be required for peacetime disaster or war emergency.
NB EMO takes necessary steps to ensure emergencies are managed effectively, and government continues to function in emergencies.
