FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has introduced new legislation to modernize and simplify trade across the country.

“We’ve taken several ambitious steps to improve trade between New Brunswick and other Canadian jurisdictions, and to create better conditions for our businesses, making it easier for them to succeed in other markets within Canada,” said Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Jean-Claude D’Amours. “This legislation further complements the work we have already done to diversify trade during these uncertain times.”

The Free Trade within Canada Act is meant to ensure goods and services approved for sale in other Canadian jurisdictions are recognized as meeting New Brunswick’s standards. It would also allow New Brunswick products to be more easily sold in provinces with similar legislation, such as Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

The act is also meant to establish a clear framework to ensure consistent and transparent regulatory practices for goods and services.

“This is an important step towards realizing the benefits of one Canadian economy, providing local businesses with new market access opportunities, and creating growth opportunities for our provincial economy,” said Luke Randall, the minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “We are proud to promote economic growth through our continued collaboration with other jurisdictions.”
