Investment in theatre upgrades at St. Stephen Middle School17 August 2018
ST. STEPHEN (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $289,000 in upgrades and renovations for the St. Stephen Middle School theatre.
“Improving the quality of life for all New Brunswickers is important for your government,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “We are proud to invest in the renovations and upgrades to the St. Stephen Middle School theatre, which will be used by both students and the community to enhance the theatrical experience.”
Ames spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.
“On behalf of St. Stephen Middle School, I would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Regional Development Corporation and to Minister John Ames for their generous support of our theatre renovation project,” said principal Bronwyn Tanner. “This significant contribution will help us a great deal in achieving our overall fundraising goal. The theatre plays an important role in our school and community as a gathering spot for various productions, assemblies and presentations. It is regularly used by our band, choir and drama groups. We are fortunate to have such a beautiful space, and the renovation will provide much needed upgrades and make it accessible for all.”
The $346,167 project includes new lighting, flooring, curtains, acoustic panels, chairs, outdoor stairs and a ramp.
The government is investing $289,000 through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Regional Development Corporation. The parent school support committee will contribute the remaining $57,167.
