Death of an inmate at Southeast Regional Correctional Centre09 February 2018
MONCTON (GNB) – On Feb. 8, a 49-year-old male inmate at the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre was found unresponsive in his cell. Staff called 911 but despite efforts to revive the man, he died at 6:35 p.m.
Efforts on behalf of correctional officers and medical staff to apply first aid, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), were unsuccessful. Paramedics were on site to provide resuscitation procedures.
As in all cases involving the death of an offender, Coroner Services and the RCMP were notified of the death and will be investigating. Correctional Services will complete an internal review.
Next of kin are being notified. At this time, Department of Justice and Public Safety is unable to provide further information on this case. The name of the deceased will be released once next of kin notification has been completed.
