Our top priority is the health and safety of New Brunswickers. Acting now to prevent the spread of COVID-19 will safeguard our economy and ensure critical service delivery is maintained.
At the same time, we recognize a pandemic of this nature will impact New Brunswick’s 25,000 small businesses with operations that are impacted by sudden shifts in trade.
I want to assure you that all levels of government are working tirelessly to assess the economic impacts associated with the virus and its impact on jobs, workers, entrepreneurs and business confidence.
In New Brunswick, an all-party cabinet committee has been formed to ensure ongoing leadership, co-ordination and preparedness in responding to the health and economic impact of the virus.
The federal government has announced a series of short-term initiatives designed to support both employers and employees, including support for small business. We are also closely working with federal and provincial partners to consider appropriate measures to support our business community.
As we work towards longer-term solutions for our business community, please know that your concerns are being heard and that, as always, you have my full support.
