FREDERICTON (GNB) – In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Women’s Equality Branch has announced the recipients of its second annual Minister's Awards for Excellence in Championing Gender Equality – VIVE. These awards recognize women and girls from diverse backgrounds who are advancing gender equality.

“Over the past two years, our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, neighbours and colleagues have been putting their lives on the line to get us through the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace, who is also the minister responsible for women’s equality. “Stand with us as we say thank you to them for their courage and strength.”

This year’s recipients are:

·         Youth Champion – Vera Chen, New Maryland

·         Community Champion – Lyne Chantal Boudreau, Moncton

·         Business Champion – Cathy Simpson, Rothesay

·         Everyday Champion – Rev. Elizabeth Stevenson, Kingston

·         Government Champion – Michele Cronin, New Maryland

“These individuals are powerful leaders and change-makers,” said Scott-Wallace. “Their accomplishments inspire us to create a more equal, diverse and inclusive world. We celebrate their stories today and will remember them as we continue to advance gender equality in New Brunswick.”

International Women's Day has been celebrated since 1911, recognizing the economic, political and social achievements of women.
