FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant, who is also minister responsible for women's equality, will be celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of New Brunswick women on March 8, International Women’s Day.

Canada’s theme for this year is, Strong Women. Strong World. Improving Economic Opportunities for All. It highlights the contributions that women make every day to both the domestic and global economy and the importance of ensuring that every woman has the opportunity to help create prosperity.

“As we aim to strengthen our economy through job creation, we need to ensure that employers have access to a diverse and skilled workforce which values the involvement of women,” said Gallant. “We need more women in positions of influence within government, politics, and the private sector.”

New Brunswickers are invited to honour the effort and accomplishments of women and girls in their communities.

“International Women’s Day is traditionally a time to celebrate the successes made in advancing women’s equality and reflect on the challenges and barriers that women continue to face in the home, community and workplace,” said Gallant.

New Brunswickers are encouraged to participate in activities being held around the province on March 8 and throughout the month. Event information can be found on the Women’s Equality Branch website.
